1970s MEWS HOUSE, HAMPSTEAD
The client wished to turn a very cold living room into a warm, comfortable space fit for both relaxing and entertaining as well as providing space for a separate home office/study area. Design advice was sought in the areas of spatial planning, heating, lighting, furnishings, wall and window treatments, floor coverings, colour palettes and general decorative finishes.

COLOUR PALETTE
A sense of warmth was created through the use of cream and sandy coloured walls, teamed with rich dark wood flooring and joinery. Natural seagrass lined the study walls to add texture and visual interest, while brass and gold were used in decorative details throughout to give the required 70’s 'bling' element to the space

The room was stripped back to a shell and fully insulated. A rich, dark, smoked oak flooring was laid to compliment the original varnished pine panel ceiling and doors were designed to separate the study from the main living room. Using a warm walnut wood for the framework, the opening of the doors was created with reclaimed 1930s copper window frames.
In the living area, further bespoke joinery was created - a multi tasking walnut seat bench that wrapped itself across two walls, housing the TV/AV unit as well as offering additional storage and seating. A newly installed ‘hole in the wall’ fireplace created atmosphere as well as offering an additional heat source.
Working with some of the client’s existing furniture, additional mid-century pieces were sourced as well vintage lighting to add character and visual interest.
